County Armagh at its highest

Slieve Gullion gives County Armagh its high point in the heart of the Ring of Gullion landscape. Its southern summit brings together mountain walking and an important archaeological site, rather than simply a height to tick off. The wider forest park offers a different experience below the mountain. Keep those two outings distinct when deciding what suits your group and what belongs in your county high point journal.

Before you go

Plan your visit

Use the destination operator's mountain-walk information to distinguish the forest facilities, scenic drive and summit trail. The upper walk includes rocky and peaty terrain. The operator currently reports that the South Cairn passage-grave chamber is closed for maintenance; a hill visit does not include permission to enter it. Check current park notices before travelling and use an appropriate map for the upper mountain rather than treating the scenic drive as your walking plan.

Use a current detailed map, check weather and access, and choose a route within your experience. Plan a hill day →
