County Louth at its highest
Slieve Foye is the high point of County Louth and the Cooley Mountains. It brings a distinct mountain landscape on the edge of Leinster into the wider county challenge, separate from the Wicklow hills farther south. The specialist listing provides a clear summit reference for planning. Keep that exact high-point objective in view when comparing local loop walks and mountain descriptions: enjoying a trail in the Cooleys does not necessarily mean reaching the county's highest ground.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Check the actual summit against your chosen route: the Slieve Foye Loop explores the slopes and should not be assumed to reach the county top. Sport Ireland currently reports storm damage and diversions on that loop and says dogs are not permitted. Follow current signs. For summit research, High Point Ireland gives J169120 and recommends Discovery Sheet 36 or OSNI Sheet 29. Confirm current approach and access details locally before selecting a separate summit outing.
