County Carlow at its highest
Mount Leinster is Carlow's county high point and the highest summit in the Blackstairs Mountains. It also represents Wexford, giving the two county records a common mountain. Carlow Tourism places it within a wider landscape of villages, the Barrow Valley and the Mount Leinster Heritage Drive. A summit visit can therefore be one part of a slower exploration of south Carlow, with the walking day planned separately from the driving tour.
Before you go
Plan your visit
Use a map covering the Blackstairs and the actual summit when choosing your walk. High Point Ireland recommends Discovery Sheet 68 and the dedicated EastWest Blackstairs map. Carlow's South Leinster Way material is useful regional context, but a stage finishing at Nine Stones should not be mistaken for the county summit. Check the precise destination, current local access information and the return journey before setting out from any trailhead.
