County Cavan at its highest

Cuilcagh is Cavan's county high point and shares that role with Fermanagh. The mountain belongs to a landscape of blanket bog and upland plateau within Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark. Its well-known boardwalk has made the wider mountain familiar to many visitors, but the viewing platform and the summit are different destinations. For a county challenge, understanding that distinction matters more than copying the name of a popular outing into your log.

Before you go

Plan your visit

Check current Geopark advice before planning a summit visit. On 15 October 2026 the operator asked visitors to remain on designated trails and within the boardwalk viewing platform, and did not recommend access beyond it to the summit. Respect that request; do not extend the boardwalk outing to claim the high point. Ask the Geopark for current guidance before making a separate summit plan, and record a platform visit accurately.
